Meet Cricket, a special puppy looking for a special home!
Cricket is a sweet puppy with a unique start in life. cricket was diagnosed with Dwarfism and she’s looking for a loving and understanding home where she can thrive. Her condition makes her unique, but it also means she will need a family that can accommodate her special needs to ensure she lives a happy, healthy life.
About her condition:
Puppy dwarfism, or achondroplasia, is a genetic condition that causes shortened limbs and may also affect overall growth, organ function, and mobility. Cricket requires a bit more care and attention than other puppies.
Special Care she will need:
Joint and Mobility Support
Due to her shortened limbs , she may develop joint issues as she grows. Soft bedding and low-impact exercise are important to prevent stress on her joints.
Access ramps or steps for furniture and other elevated areas can help protect her from injury.
Regular veterinary Care:
More frequent check ups may be necessary to monitor her growth and identify possible complications early
Dwarfism can sometimes affect organ development so periodic tests may be needed.
Proper diet:
A balanced diet is critical for her development, but overfeeding must be avoided to prevent obesity, which can exacerbate joint and mobility problems.
Adapted Environment:
She might struggle with high-energy play up with other pets. A calm home with patient animals or as the only pet could be ideal.
Ensure spaces are safe and accessible for her size and physical limitations.
Considerations for her new owners
Time and patience: Her care will require dedication, especially as her condition evolves.
Financial Commitment: The cost of specialised care, veterinary visits, and potential treatments.
Love and understanding: Her dwarfism doesn’t define her; she’s still a playful, loving puppy who thrives on companionship with humans.
At just 8 weeks old, Cricket is at a critical stage for learning and development. She’ll need patient, loving families committed to raising her into a well-adjusted adult dog.
General needs for each puppy include:
Proper nutrition: high-quality puppy food to support her rapid growth and development.
Safe environment: Puppy-proof your home by removing hazards like wires, small objects, and toxic plants. Puppies explore their environment with their mouths, if it’s small enough they’ll have it!
Provide a comfortable quiet space for her to rest , as puppies need plenty of sleep.
Socialisation
Introduce her to different people, other dogs, and various environments in a controlled way to build confidence and reduce fearfulness.
Positive interactions now will help her become well-rounded adults. VERY IMPORTANT!
Additional Considerations
Time & Patience: Puppies require consistent training, supervision, and attention during their first year.
Committent: Adopting a puppy means a long-term responsibility, as they will grow into adult dogs that need care for their entire lives.
Family Fit: Consider your lifestyle and whether you have time, space, and energy for the puppies need.
